I received these letters recently, and thought you would enjoy them as much as I did…

I recently started reading your novel ‘Pillars of the Earth’, which was recommended by a friend. I wanted to know more about you, so I logged on to your web site, hardly expecting a concise course on novel writing. I want to thank you for sharing your direction and insight. Not because I’m a writer – I am a novice reader. Still, I feel like I’ve just enjoyed a breath of fresh air.

Dear Mr. Follett,
I wanted to tell you how much I love your books. I have read all the published books, including your firsts – ‘Paper Money’ and ‘The Modigliani Scandal’. I am not fluent in speaking nor writing in English, but nevertheless I am enjoying reding in English. Being an architect I most loved your book ‘The Pillars of the Earth’, which I first read in 1990. A year later our first grandchild was born – his name is Yonathan (in Hebrew, Jonathan in English) which aptly you wrote ‘is a gift of God’, since ‘Yo’ means in Hebrew ‘God’ and ‘nathan’ means ‘gave’. I must say, the inspiration came somehow from your book.
Yours very truly,

The first book I read from you was ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ when I did my military service five years ago. I borrowed it from a friend but after I had read the last page I bought my own copy and I’ve read it four times since that time.
Since that I read ‘A Dangerous Fortune’, ‘Night over Water’, ‘Jackdaws’, ‘Code to Zero’ and ‘Hornet Flight’. The last two books I bought one week ago and yes, I already have read them. Just couldn’t stop reading.
I don’t know which of your books I’ll buy next but I think that doesn’t really matter. I know what to expect: good characters, a brilliant story and not too much sleep (I’ll just finish that page, then I’ll turn off the light…).
I look forward to your letters. Please write to me via the Contact page, and do see earlier letters…
If you’ve read several of my books, you might enjoy matching the first line with the title, or guessing the working title
